Do you ever feel like you’re falling behind in life? I do. It’s common to feel that way, especially in your 20s when you’re figuring out who you are and what the heck you’re supposed to do with your life. I learned this year that I needed to show more awareness for being present in the moment. Discover more about a collection of lessons I've learned from this practice of mindfulness below. PAY ATTENTION: BEING MORE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT For those of you who aren’t in your 20s, this is still applicable to anyone at any age. I know just about everyone can say that 2020 took a toll on them in some way, shape, or form. You could view it as a year of struggle, but what comes from struggle? Overcoming it and becoming stronger in spite of the challenges you faced. Growth. The good stuff. So, yes, you grew this year, but what else? Well, we all learned how easy it is to take certain aspects of our lives for granted. One of which is focusing too much on the past and future, yet being disconnected with the present. MY ADVICE Don’t focus on the past or worry about the “what ifs” of the future. Practice paying attention to being present with what’s right in front of you. The truth is that we’re all guilty (oh yeah, especially me) of forgetting that what we currently have in our lives was once something we wanted. We take things, time, and people for granted. Too often, we get in this unproductive cycle (see below): We attain our goal, are quick to dismiss it, then we’re ready for the “next big thing.”
In reality, we should slow down and appreciate what we have and who we have it with. I’m walking into 2021 with not only a smile but a deeper appreciation for all of the facets of my life that I have right here, right now. How are you going to show up and be more present in the moment? Let me know! I'd love to hear about your journey. I challenge you to be attentive towards being more present with Mere Simplicity.
