“Eat wise, drop a size” …but it’s not just about losing weight, right? Nutrition is an enormous factor of developing a healthy lifestyle. I view it not as a tool to lose weight, but to treat myself to feeling good about who I am. Finding a healthy diet routine is more than just about shredding some pounds It is involved with collectively expanding a healthier lifestyle to fulfill everlasting self-happiness with the way you look and feel. It runs deeper than what we physically see on the outside. Now, here’s the question everyone asks – How do I achieve this? Let me tell you three tips that helped me change my overall lifestyle for the better. 1: BODY POSITIVITY I’ve struggled with body image insecurities. I know all too well about how it feels to look at yourself in the mirror, and to not be satisfied with your reflection. Then again, I remind myself that the same All-Powerful, Gracious Heavenly Father who makes breath-taking sunsets also created us. Amazing, I know. Easier said than done, if you remove negative societal standards of its definition of what’s “gorgeous” then we remove ourselves from one aspect of negative self-talk and start developing something beautiful – body positivity. Body positivity is the act of accepting the way you look right now without comparison of previous ways you’ve looked or towards others’ appearances. To start and stick with a healthy diet needs to come from a clean, healthy body positivity mindset. Realize and know your own worth, your own beauty. Build confidence and goals from there and understand the importance of self-love, and how eating the right kind of food is an act of love towards your body. 2: YOUR BODY IS YOUR TEMPLE - FUEL IT WISELY I focus on lean protein, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. I drink coffee, tea and water mainly. Not a big alcohol enthusiast. Why these foods? Your body requires certain nutrients to properly get through each day with energy. It’s also good to educated yourself on WHY certain foods are good for you to completely understand the reasoning behind what positive effects it has on your body. See chart below for examples: 3: CRAVINGS, OVER-INDULGENCE, DIET FADS... NO THANKS The most important piece of advice to remember is this – you have to find a diet routine that is personalized to you and your preferred goals. Oftentimes, diet trends and fads don’t stick around with one person for a lifetime because they are temporary “quick fixes” to lose weight. My goal is to live a continual healthy lifestyle. I’ve fixed my diet habits to ensuring that’s my lifestyle. I don’t restrict myself of cravings. In fact, is it good to give in to them within moderation. One tip to minimize cravings I learned from Sarahs Day - She recommended that if you crave something sweet like chocolate cake, eat something with the same caliber of sweetness, like an apple with peanut butter and honey. You’ll be satisfying your sweet tooth without the excess in calories and feeling guilty for overindulgence. Remember: Finding and perfecting a personalized healthy diet is not a linear process. You will have ups and downs, but always remember why you started and where your end-goal lies. FINAL THOUGHTS - For the woman or man reading this – please know that you are not alone in your personal battles. You are beautifully crafted by the Big Man Upstairs. You will achieve the goals you have for yourself if you put your mind to it. Do know that setbacks happen, and that is normal. We are human. Give into your cravings, but don’t ruin the progress you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Keep your mind focused on the goals you set for yourself and do not stop until you reach them. I repeat – do not lose sight of the goals you set for yourself. Keep pushing through. You got this. Reflect and learn to live your healthier life with Mere Simplicity.
